Casey killed a man in college and now she’s a cop. No one knows except her best friend Diana, whom Casey has been protecting from an abusive ex for years. The ex is back in town and Casey’s own past is catching up with her, landing her lover in the hospital. Diana knows of a town where people can go to disappear. Casey is skeptical, but agrees to go. Once in Rockton, Casey finds her detective services needed to help solve a murder and a disappearance, which may or may not be connected.
It took a little while for me to warm up to Casey, but once she and Diana moved to Rockton, things started getting very interesting. Sheriff Dalton started as a bit of an antagonist toward Casey, yet he needed her help to solve the mysteries in Rockton. I also liked the slow burn romance between Casey and Sheriff Dalton. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end, with several red herrings and a satisfactory ending. This is the first book in the series, and I will probably read more.
