Do you want to know more about the history of the area?
Curious about what Danville and the surrounding area used to be like?
Our Vermilion County histories are online for free at Archive.org and are just waiting for you to come explore them. The book is offered on several sites but I like this one the best as it feels like I have the actual 109 year-old book in front of me – without the musty smell.
The book most referred to is “History of Vermilion County, Illinois” by Lottie E. Jones in 1911.
It’s full of information about the development of our county and it’s many colorful characters. Some you recognize as someone a street or building is named after but many you will not have heard of.
After reading through some of the chapters, you think just a bit differently when walking or driving around this area remembering what it was like so long ago and what it is now. You appreciate the many people and their hard work and want to thank them for their legacy.
When the Danville Public Library reopens, you can come into the Archives on the second floor and find out what happens in the 109 years since the book was published!
