In the aftermath of losing his father, Sonny Weaver Jr. has to face one of the biggest days of the year. As the General Manager of the Cleveland Browns it is a day for you to expand your team in the best way possible. It’s Draft Day. It’s all of the pomp and circumstance of the event with a behind-the-scenes look into the personal lives of the people involved. Will Sonny go for another quarterback since his current one went bust the year before? Or will he get a running back he desperately needs to fill in his offense? Add in hurt feelings of the people in the draft who post their thoughts on Twitter. There is something for everyone.
The major reason this movie works is due to the cooperation of the National Football League. Draft Day would not have the same effect if it made up team names in places everyone knows there is no team. With the support of the NFL, the production was able to use the team logos and give the film an authenticity that it would not have any other way. This is a film that can be enjoyed by the truest of football fans in addition to the people who don’t know what the red zone is.
