Unlikely Witness to President Lincoln’s Final Hours

Background – Bob O’Connor is an author, researcher, and historian who has presented over 1,000 times since 2006 and a regular at the Danville Library. He has written over thirty books, non-fiction and fiction, mostly about the American Civil War. He has been named finalist in national book competition four times. He lives in Charles Town, WV.

Presentation – A talk about his newest book, Henry Ulke, “Unlikely Witness to President Lincoln’s Final Hours”.  Ulke and his brother, originally from Transylvania, Prussia, were both present at the Petersen House, where the president was taken after he was shot at Ford’s Theater. The story is intriguing as to why in the world were these two allowed into that room along with members of the U. S. House and Senate and Lincoln’s family.
